Low-cost, easy-to-process, highly efficient, air-tolerant, and bandedge-tunable perovskites may bring new breakthroughs in organic chemistry photocatalysis.

We explored lead halide perovskites nanocrystals as stable and tunable photocatalysts for a broad scope organic synthesis of C-C, C-N, C-O bond formation reactions.

Significance and Impact

We provide organic chemistry new avenues with novel highly efficient perovskite photocatalyst for broader scope organic synthesis, comparing to typical expensive noble metal molecular photocatalysts.

  • A general acceptance of perovskite nanocrystals for organic reactions has been demonstrated by C-C C-N, and C-O formations.
  • A detailed photocatalytic reactivity study of perovskites regarding size, solvent type, ions, and acidity has been explored.
  • Mechanistic investigation further proves perovskites' excellent photophysical property towards charge separation and transfer.
